I had a similar problem with my Savage. It was the battery terminals. They were dirty. Enough power flow to light the headlight, but not enough to turn the starter motor.
In case you have the same problem, I suggest you remove the battery and clean both the battery terminals and the contacts on the leads that bolt to the battery.
Your problem may be as simple as this, especially as all appears fine before and after the non starting event.
